Lilas Puppets

Thanks to (adopted) Grandma daisy Lila in NYC we have the most amazing collection of puppets in the school room...and they are great for drama, for story telling and of course for plain old fashioned fun :) Heres Aideen with her two favourites, the caterpillar that turns into a butterfly and the magical unicorn.

April is Poetry month !

We`re working away, combining English, art and community lessons for Poetry Month...today we printed out our yearly batch of "poems in my poecket" which we give to our local library and some shops in the town so people can just take one...poetry is for sharing after all !
Also today we did poetry art...we read a poem aloud to each other and draw an image/s that the poem has created for us...Aideen likes a brew while studying too :)

Growing...

This morning when we went into the HSroom we were pleasently surprised to see the red geranium had blossomed :)
Our tomatoes are doing good too...

Postcard 101

Today we received our 101st postcard ! Aideen has been coleecting postcards for about a year now, it helps great with our Geography lessons. She keeps them in a box (recycled of course), covered in stamps and in a photo album.

Womans Way Interview 2008

The magazine "Womans Way" contacted us in 2008 throught HEN (Homeschool Education Network) to ask us to do an interview...it was a great opportunity not just for us but we felt for the other 2.5 thousand HSing faamilies in Ireland to show we werent hippy freaks, but ordinary parents just wanting the best for our children...like any other parents...these are just a scattering of the pics taken.
It brings back memories of HS at the kitchen table, which is fine, but wasnt for us, as our cottage kitchen is minute and everyday meant taking the HS supplies on/off the table for dinner,etc...now weve converted a room into an actual schoolroom we`ve never looked back !

The Easter Tree

The annual Easter Tree and Trocaire box on our kitchen table...it stays there for the whole of lent (usually falls down or gets knocked over a few times but survives glalantly)
